The Quarries
Our corporate quarries are located a few kilometers north of the village of Neochorion, in a location called Plaka, which has a clear view of the Aegean. This is the place where the Neohorion schist is mined at, a product that for many centuries goes under the brand name Pelion.
In the Middle Ages ship captains from Neohorion carried the product into the ports of Italy, Egypt, Turkey, up to the Ukrainian port of Odessa. At present, the Neohorion schist (Polygonal and Ledge stones) satisfy a large part of the Greek market and are successfully exported to countries abroad. The presence of Pelion stone at beautiful stone houses both in the mountain itself as well as abroad is their seal of quality approval internationally.
As a prime material, the Pelion stone shines of natural beauty and variety of colors, is blessed with high durability, resistance to extreme temperature ranges and processingmodes, possess non-skid and insulating properties… everything that sets it apart as an excellent material for many uses such as stone houses, pavements, roofs, floors, stone linings, outdoor & indoor decoration etc.
