The advantages of the stone make it one of the most reliable fencing construction materials. Its resilience to weather conditions but also to the influence of other exogenous factors, as well as the fact that it is not affected by microorganisms, insects, etc., constitutes an option with an increased shelf life. Also, apart from timelessness, stone, regardless of the way it is used - modern or traditional - always marks a special aesthetic approach and a discreet expression of elegance. Another feature often sought is the visibility of the values ??that represent the particular building material, namely stability, strength and permanence. Features and requirements Fencing is an application that fits greatly with the characteristics of the stone. An enclosure fulfills several functions. It separates the private from the communal free space or the street, controls the entry of individuals into private property and protects them from violations. At the same time, it is an element of identification and recognition of private property. It is the "precursor" of the building and helps to integrate it into the surrounding natural and structured environment. In addition, it is a typical architectural element of the building that has a significant impact on the surrounding area. In order to fulfill to a satisfactory degree all of the above functions, a fencing must be carefully designed with regard to its siting, shape and method of construction. It is construction with technical and architectural requirements. Its design is required to adapt to the basic buildings but at the same time to fit into a defined environment and to be combined with similar elements of the neighboring structures. Typical choice is the lining of a fencing made of concrete (application with chipped stone of Ioannina in a two-storey residence in Thessaloniki, architect: Niki Manou - Andreadis). When planning a fencing, the following points should be considered: The degree of security and isolation it provides to the building significantly affects the size and construction of the fence. Neighboring buildings or residential complexes are a serious criterion when designing fencing because their confrontation is immediate and greatly contributes to shaping the public space or the streets that surround the private spaces. Entrances are one of the most characteristic features of a fence. The location and orientation, the size and the architecture of the entrance must be combined with the architecture and operation of the building and be in harmony with the neighboring. Stone enclosures can also incorporate additional elements from a different material, such as Metal railings. The integration of a natural or artificial element that existed or is planned to be placed at some point on the fence is another point that needs attention. It can be an electric lighting pole or an outdoor equipment item, a tree, etc. Categories of rocks Natural rocks are geologically distinguished in three categories of volcanic, sedimentary and metamorphosed. In the first category belong the basalt and the granite, while the second belongs to the limestones. Transformed rocks include gneiss, shale and marble. Entrance door to stone fence with Aeolian limestones (Residence in Aegina, architectural design: G. Makris, G. Kalavrytinos). The stones used for the construction of fences may have a rectangular or irregular shape. In the same construction a combination of rectangular and irregular stones can also be made. Rectangular stones are cut from the mass of rocks from which they come from using mechanical means. The irregular stones are extracted from rocks consisting of parallel layers and left in their natural state. Their seats are roughly processed, usually by hand, so that they can be adjusted to each other. Prior to use, irregular stones should be cleaned thoroughly because deposits, likely to be present on their physical seats, may chemically interact with the binder mortar or simply absorb its moisture. Care must be taken when extracting and depositing stones from anisotropic rocks, so that both processes follow the direction of the greatest clarity. Choice of stone for fencing construction The stone fences are made of natural stones or manufactured building blocks that allow the construction of a traditional look. Natural stones are usually chosen because of their aesthetics or because they are available in the project area. A variety of natural stones may be used that exhibit different
